[*]From the U.S. and Canada, you can take a direct flight to Huatulco (HUX) during winter months from several U.S. and Canadian cities. Otherwise, connecting flights run through Houston and Mexico City. The Huatulco International Airport (HUX) is approximately 1.5 hour drive. By flying into Mexico City, you can take one of 4 daily flights to Puerto Escondido or one of 6 daily flights to Huatulco. Many of the flights listed below do not show up through flight search engines like Expedia. It is best to check directly with the airlines.

  • From Mexico City to Puerto Escondido:
    It is possible to connect in Mexico City to Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), located just west of town on Highway 200. The following airlines serve Puerto Escondido from Mexico City: Interjet, Aeromar and Vivaaerobus. Please carefully check connection times.

  • From Mexico City to Huatulco:
    Daily flights from Mexico City to Huatulco can be found on Interjet (4 flights per day), Magni Charters, Aeromexico, Aeromar and Volaris


  • From Europe, direct flights to Mexico City can be found on all major airlines from large European cities.  Upon arrival in Mexico City, you can connect to Puerto Escondido or Huatulco with the above airline information.

  • Taxis are available at both airports. We can also send a cab to pick you up if you let us know ahead of time. At the Huatuclo airport, taxis are available in the airport. You can save some money by walking out of the airport to the main road and taking a taxi from there or taking the SUR bus line (white, green and yellow buses) which passes by the airport at approximately quarter past the hour every hour. You have to flag down the bus.

Rental Cars

If you are planning on renting a car for your stay, you can reserve in Puerto Escondido through a local company or in Huatulco. If arriving in Huatulco you can reserve online through Hertz.com, Avis.com or Europcar.com.mx.

By Bus
From Mexico City to Puerto Escondido, first class buses, Alta Mar and Turistar, leave Mexico terminals North and South for a 10 to 12-hour trip. 

From Oaxaca, bus service through ADO (once daily) or minivans that depart every 30 minutes. It is recommended to take the ADO line to Puerto Escondido via Huatulco, an 11 hour bus ride. Seats recline and movies are shown. The minivans that leave from Oaxaca City take 8 hours, leave every 30 minutes and follow a very curvy itinerary.

From Acapulco and Huatulco, bus service on ADO or OCC is available.

Driving Directions

Highways connect Puerto Escondido with Acapulco, Oaxaca city and Huatulco. Acapulco lies 200 miles to the north via Highway 200. Highway 131 connects Oaxaca City with Puerto Escondido, about an eight-hour drive.

From the center of Puerto Escondido or the Airport: Take Hwy 200 towards Huatulco. Look for the signs on the right side of the road indicating Casamar. Turn right after the sign and follow the next sign to the hotel.From Huatulco, Airport take the main highway 200: Turn right out of the airport onto Highway 200, drive about 1.5 hours. The turn off is around 95 kilometers from the Huatulco airport.
